World History 8

We completed our tour of the Persian Empire as well as learned quite a bit about the Phonecians.  We’ll be reviewing Mesopotamia on Wednesday and having the test on Thursday.

Remember: October 6 (a week from today) the Mesopotamia project is due.

Modern World History

We saw the Conquistador Francisco Pizarro take the Inca empire for Spain and learned about the Columbian Exchange.

Remember: Wednesday and Thursday are the presentation days.

US History I

Today was an in class assignment on the Early Colonial Period.

We had an in-class assignment.  Finish the worksheet packet and read pgs 54-57, then answer questions 2, 3, 5, 6 on pg 57.

Modern World History

Conquistadors made the Spanish empire.  We discussed Hernan Cortes conquest of the Aztec Empire.  Next, Francisco Pizarro will take the Inca Empire for Spain.

US History I

Bacon’s Rebellion was the topic of discussion today.  We saw the dichotomy within the society growing in the South.

Our poor friends, the Babylonians, have left us for good.  They’ve been replaced by the Persians.  Darius was quite the organizer.

REMINDER Period 1: Peer leadership tomorrow…bring stuff for project to work in class on friday.

REMINDER Period 7: Bring book and be prepared to tell me which project you will be doing.

Modern World History

Both the Portuguese and Spanish were the first on the block with exploration.  The Portuguese spent time going around Africa to find a water route to Asia, while the Spanish went West to find the East.  Instead Spain found 2 massive continents in between and claimed most of it for themselves.

US History I

We saw the end of the “Dutch Wedge” between New England and the Southern Colonies.  We then began to discuss Bacon’s Rebellion.

World History 8

Today we discussed the see-saw existence of the Babylonian Empire.  The Hittites knocked them down, but they came back.  Then the Assyrians knocked them down, and again they came back.  Tomorrow, we’ll talk about them for the last time.  (They don’t come back after the Persians are through with them)

NOTE:  Nebuchadnezzar can NEVER EVER be misspelled.

Modern World History

First, we discussed elements of making a simple but effective PowerPoint.  REMEMBER: PowePoint is a presentation aide, not the presenter.  You are the presenter.  We spent the remainder of the period working on the New World Explorer  PowerPoint Project.

US History I

We finished discussing issues between Colonists and Natives in New England.  We then moved onto New Netherland.  Tomorrow  we will see how the English take hold of the entire East Coast.

As the Babylonians come to an end, we started discussing the Hittites and Assyrians.  We will continue with the Assyrian empire tomorrow.

Modern World History

Along with starting Chapter 6, a new PowerPoint was assigned.  This one has to do with New World Explorers.  Tomorrow we will start research.  The project is due October 1.

US History I

On our agenda today was Puritan dissenters and problems between Natives and Colonists in New England.  Keep working on the PowerPoint.

Today was Peer Leadership Field Day.  In period 1 we watched a video on Mesopotamia.  Continue working on the Mesopotamia Project this weekend.

We took the Renaissance Test today.  Our next topic will be explorers and economic expansion in chapter 6.

US History I

Discussed in class today was life as a Puritan in New England.  This harsh lifestyle led to dissenters.

For homework finish the Puritans and Pilgrims worksheet.

World History 8

We applied aspects of Hammurabi’s Code to situations that the code would apply to.  We then suggested punishments to the situations and, in most cases, were shocked with the actual punishments.

Modern World History

Renaissance Trivia Challenge was the name of today’s review game.  Be sure to study chapter 5 for tomorrows test.  It is all about the Renaissance.

US History I

We began our exploration of the colonies in New England.  The Puritans set up the colony to make a new society away from England.

Happy Constitution Day!

World History 8

Today’s class was all about the Babylonians, and in particular Hammurabi’s Code.  Tomorrow we will be applying some of what we learned about Hammurabi’s Code in class.

Modern World History

Discussed in class was John Calvin and his changes made to the Protestant Reformation.  Ultimately, Calvinism becomes the dominant form of Protestantism.

Tonight for homework read pgs. 184-187, please take notes on the Reformation in England then answer questions 2-4 on pg 187.  (The questions are on the far left margin of the page)

US History I

“Brown Gold” was our focus today.  After colonists from England failed to find gold, tobacco became the resource that made them baskets of money.

For homework tonight, complete the John Smith/Tobacco label worksheet.
